Came here based on YELP ratings and we weren't disappointed. Wife wanted chitterlings, and she got them. Nice and tender, and most importantly, CLEAN :-) I had to swear off chitterlings a while back after eating some another establishment put me in the hospital, but I sampled hers and they were yummy. She also had sides of Brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes that were tasty too. Daughter had fried platter of four shrimp, four scallops, and four oysters. Oysters looked like they were only lightly dusted in flour...I don't like them heavily caked or battered, so that's on my list for a future visit. I had the grilled seafood platter of tilapia, crab cake, shrimp, and scallops that came with sauteed onions and peppers, sides were collard greens and mac-cheese. The portions are huge. I made two meals of this. There is still some leftover mac-cheese. Will be posting pix. Definitely plan a return visit. On the menu is also soft shelled crabs and that's a hit with us.

I ordered the salmon cake sandwich with sweet potato fries. Sandwich means that my salmon patty should be between two pieces of bread. This was not the case, some assembly required. Also the menu stated that atop my sandwich would be coleslaw and pickles. Nope. I'm angry because I ordered with other people and someone ordered the turkey club sandwich. It looked delicious and it was assembled. I called to ask why was my sandwich not sent the way the menu said and why did it cost more. They were so rude and did not want to fix the fact that i DID NOT get what I wanted. I will absolutely positively Not be ordering from there.

I am in love. My partner and I were craving fried seafood, and man is this the place to go! We decided to pick up dinner for a Friday night at home. We pulled into a crowded parking lot. Walked into a crowded restaurant and a long ass line. Man, was it worth the wait! We decided to go all out, being our first time. We ordered a combination with fried scallops, fried shrimp and fried bonefish (can't remember what kind). We also had the baked trout stuffed with lump crab. For sides, collard greens, kale, corn and mac & cheese. Everything was DELICIOUS. The only thing, I didn't care for was the fried scallops, they were kinda small and too much breading. The stuffed trout was good, but I definitely like their fried fish better. Macaroni in the mac & cheese was al dente. Cheese sauce was smooth and perfect. Collard greens were firm and not too salty which is an issue I run into often at other establishments. But hands down, the best side is the kale. They really know how to prepare kale just right. I absolutely loved it. Their fried shrimp is also very good. Next time, I looking forward to trying the fried tilapia and/or the fried trout the next time around. I will have myself a platter of fried fish, maybe two and the extra large container for sides that they offer (which is humungous) of kale. I am so NOT kidding. The best part about the fried fish, is not once did I think or feel I need any kind of sauce. The taste in itself is so amazing. No condiments are needed. The food is VERY fresh. You can taste it and the pain during the wait. But again, well worth it. They really have an extensive menu. It's hard to be able to try everything, especially when you find the things you love the most. Service isn't the greatest nor the worst. They were super busy, so I didn't really hold that against them. I was one happy girl. The best fried fish I have had in the DC/MD/VA area - for sure.

This is currently my favorite Soul Food restaurant in the DC Metro area until someone else convinces me otherwise... I will warn you now: you will not be able to eat all the food that Mid Atlantic Seafood gives you. If you do, you will suffer the dire consequences of falling over on the couch and taking a well-needed trip to La-La land (Itis effect). The combination of fried tilapia, collard greens, and macaroni & cheese is too good to pass up. Oh wait, don't forget to add the cornbread which comes with the dinner combination. I have already had the Whiting Filet which was pretty good if say so myself. There are many other options to choose from including seafood, a variety of sandwiches and subs, chicken (of course), and various salads. Looking for something to order for the little rascals? There's a menu for them too. The employees are friendly, resemblance of that Southern charm that can be found south of the map. There is not much to be desired in the sit-down portion of the restaurant. The bench-style seating reminds me of a day in McDonald's, so don't expect much lavish in that category (you can order carry-out). Regardless of this, you are here for the food, which will be plenty to carry over your experience at Mid Atlantic Seafood. While Mid Atlantic Seafood is not Metro accessible, there is plenty of parking in the parking lot. Come and enjoy.

Meh... Only thing worth talking about is their fried food. Chicken wings and fish are very tasty. The side dishes are very bland. For this to be a soul food restaurant, nothing tastes to that effect. I don't know who runs the place, there are Asians, Hispanics, and Africans working there (nothing against other cultures!!!). Just my personal opinion- only Black people (not all of them of course) can cook soul food and I think that's where this place goes wrong with me. You don't see Black people opening a Chinese carryout or serving Peruvian chicken because you would lose the "authenticity". However, it's always busy in here (usually an older crowd who probably like the bland tasting food), the customer service has always been great, and you seem to get a good helping of food. I just stick to my wings and fish, I no longer order the side dishes.

Horrible! Absolutely HOR-RI------------BLE. The chicken was moist because it sat under the heat lamps for so long. The collards were like made in 2001 and served in 2013. The rest is just slop under lights and the quality is not all there. I am almost embarrass to say that I spent money there. Shhhh!

I've been coming here for a few years and when I saw the recent Groupon, it was like Christmas arrived early! First of all, if you're on a diet, keep it moving. These portions make The Cheesecake Factory's seem dainty. You'd never guess we're in a recession eating here. $11 gets you 3 large pieces of piping hot, perfectly fried tilapia, 2 sides (there are maybe 53 to choose from), and your choice of bread. I love that the fish is fried in the thinnest coating of cornmeal possible so that the flavor really stands out instead of being hidden under heavy batter. The greens, sweet potatoes, mac and cheese, and fresh veggies all put any chain restaurant's sides to shame. Oh, and if you order your food to go, the staff is always careful to cut out a piece of the styrofoam container so that the steam escapes and your fish doesn't get soggy! The only dessert I've tried is the peach cobbler. It's tasty and 2 people could easily share the small size. And as long as you're indulging in so many calories, skip the diet soda and try the sweet tea- yum! Lastly, Mid Atlantic is like the UN of restaurants. The staff is a mix of Latinos, Asians, and Blacks, all working in perfect harmony to make you a delicious meal! The customers are a happy mix of young and old, large and small. Don't waste time and money at overpriced soul food chains like Carolina Kitchen when you could eat here instead!

Mid-Atlantic is your neighborhood stop for all your seafood needs. When you don't feel like cleaning, cooking, and having a smelly house of seafood, this is definitely the place to go. I love their baked salmon, fried trout, shrimp, whiting, stuff shrimp, and salmon cakes. The crab cakes are good but I'm not really a fan of them as they aren't very meaty. For those who don't eat seafood, they have a large selection if your favorite soulfood entrees including fried/baked/barbequed chicken, turkey wings, meat loaf, bbq ribs, and even chittlings. For sides they have greens, cabbage, mac & cheese, string beans, lo mein, fried rice, squash, red potatoes, home fries, french fries, and much more. You defintely get your money's worth here as they give very large portions. I think their prices are reasonable considering that they do give you a lot of food. The menu is somewhat overwhelming because you can order just about anything under the sun. They even have breakfast which is quite tasty. Lastly, I strongly suggest that you call in your order if its a Friday or Saturday nite.

The seafood is delicious! I've never tried any other "meat" besides shrimp, scallops, and catfish. Most of their veggie sides taste pretty greasy and bland. The bread is pretty underwhelming as well and the sweets taste pretty much like cafeteria food.

I'll start with the good: The staff is friendly and attentive, the selection is huge, the crab cakes and corn bread are good. On to the bad: Everything else we ate was below expectations. Veggies steamed with fishy water? Flavorless, watery macaroni and cheese? Tons of sautéed veggies as filler in the grilled seafood platter? We left disappointed; seems quite hit and miss. If you are looking for consistently good food, look elsewhere.

So me the hubby and my mother in law came in for dinner last week. It was a Saturday night and the lone was very short. It was my first time here as well as my hubby so we were excited. The menu is very extensive so it will take s while to decide if you are like us. My mother in law ordered first because she had been there previously. We ordered a few minutes after. I had the 1/4 percent white meat bbq chicken with the teriyaki green beans and sweet potatoes. He had the chicken bacon sub with a side of the macaroni and cheese and the vegetable lo mein. We waited approximately 15 to 20 minutes for our food no big deal. As we were waiting the line grew to the door. I thought it wow it must be good. After the wait we were given our food and we left. As a rule I always check the food to make sure it's all there. It was so we went home to eat. Upon observation while waiting everyone who dined in were enjoying there food and I saw very large portions was definitely hoping for the same. Now on the good part we came home and began to take our food out the bag and dig in. Wow was all I could say portions were huge it as very reasonably priced and everything was very tasty. I was a happy camper after that. Seasonings and taste were awesome will be coming here again must try if you haven't

Though I've lived in the DC area for a couple of decades, I'm a Southern gal at heart. And although Maryland is technically below the Mason-Dixon line... I've never found any truly exceptional soul food in the region. (And you know you're not really in the South when most restaurants don't have real sweet tea, and the grocery store only carries two types of grits.) I'd passed this place many times, and hadn't thought much of it - seafood restaurants in Maryland are a dime a dozen, and most are overpriced and underwhelming. So when we tried Mid-Atlantic on a whim, we were VERY pleasantly surprised to find the best seafood and soul food we've had in the area! The restaurant itself is dated and a bit kitschy - it's a converted fast food joint with a boarded-up drive-thru,and they've covered their tables with pleather. But I don't rate a restaurant on ambience (and the kitsch is sort of adorable), I rate it on deliciousness (check!), cleanliness (check!), good value (check!), and service (check!). This place is a hidden gem. The menu is overwhelming - dozens and dozens of options for seafood, BBQ, soul food, and more. Most of the menu items can be ordered alone or as a dinner with sides. The sides are also numerous. Seriously, it almost took us longer to peruse the menu and make a decision than it did to eat the food! I took home a paper menu so I can be prepared next time (though the specials and fish options change regularly). In the end, we got the fried clam dinner with fried okra and mac 'n' cheese, and a seafood dinner with fried whiting, fried oysters, fried scallops, kale, and black-eyed peas. (If you can't tell, they have a lot of fried food... and they do a great job on it.) Everything was delicious - the fried seafood was all excellent, each type with a different breading that worked well with the flavors and textures. The fried okra was the best I've had in a long time. The mac 'n' cheese was incredibly creamy and not the weird greasy, rubbery stuff that so many restaurants serve. Surprisingly, the highlight was probably the kale - slow-cooked with onions and broth, very tender and flavorful. Best. Kale. Ever. And the best part? All of that came to $25, and we took home enough leftovers that I ate them today for lunch! Three meals for $25, especially with well-prepared seafood... this is a bargain. I'm going to have to resist becoming a regular!

Please don't let the rundown parking lot dissuade you from dining here. The menu is extensive, offering breakfast to buffalo wings to burgers to ribs. But the primary reason to eat here is the seafood. I'm not a fan of shellfish. I stick to fish, and the baked salmon was awesome. A huge slab of fish with a crispy skin and tender meat. I also ordered scalloped potatoes and green beans and a dinner roll. Honestly, it was too much food for one person, but I should have known better than to order the dinner portion for lunch. The lone hiccup I had was the $17 tag for the meal, but I think that had more to do with me ordering the dinner platter. If I had just ordered the sandwich, I think the price tag would have been cut in half. Still, if I'm in the neighborhood, I will return.

No-frills seafood and soulfood to eat-in or order-out. Crispy non-oily fried seafood that hit the spot.

Deceptively expensive for what you get, particularly when you factor in this is a buffet/deli style establishment with precious little available that is made to order (though most of the fried items are). I've found the quality of the food to be hit or miss, ranging from pretty good to frightful. all is all, if you are in the mood for fried fish in this area it will be okay, but you won't feel like you've gotten a bargain.

This place used to be very nice; I used to love it as a child. But the food now looks sooooo unnatural. Ever since it's been under new management, the food never was the same. Highly disappointed. Definitely would never recommend.

I was really craving a good fried fish sandwich for my bi-weekly splurge meal. So I tried this place and it was one of the BEST fried fish subs I've ever had (I've had many in my lifetime). You get several choices of fish; I chose the whiting. I also got their roasted red potatoes and they were delicious. The fish was seasoned so beautifully I may opt out of the sub and just get the fish by itself next time. So far this place is a winner!

After a few years of hearing about this place, I finally trekked over to order, and sit-in to enjoy. Not! The people are nice and friendly, and the place is clean. That's good. Perhaps the regular Cooks and Chef(s) were on vacation? Or perhaps a lot of Reviewers are in need of new Taste-Buds? Visually, the food looks the part, however the taste test? No way... Even the Lemon Meringue Pie has too much of the ingredient that totally messes up the natural Lemon flavor. How is it possible to mess up Lemon flavor? The fried Fish was alright, though a tad over-cooked. No moisture. B-B-Q Ribs; the parboiled, and partially baked type. Macaroni & Cheese; how do you say, 'From-a-Box'? Uh, and not Kraft either. Didn't go through the entire Menu, but did spend a healthy Sixty-Some Dollars, and carried several packed bags home. And finally, "Why are the portions so huge, when the finished products suck?" Answer: How else would they stay in business? If a place with naturally delicious cuisine opened across the street with similar pricing (which is not cheap), MID ATLANTIC SEAFOOD would be out of business within a year. Nuff Said! ---GBJ

I really adore this place. For me, it is all about the fish (namely, the fried trout). Boy, is it good. The fried trout dinner, made to order, features two long pieces of trout (with an immaculate corn meal dusted outer layer). The oh-so fresh trout is always piping hot and delicious (with the flaky fish offering a crispy bite each time). The fried trout here is easily among the best fried fish of any kind that I have had (anywhere) and may be the BEST in the DC area. To use any condiments like tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, or ketchup seems like a sacrilege to me. How could anyone cover up perfection? To me, the trout comes out ready to eat. I might sprinkle a few grains of salt and pepper. But, that's it. The meal comes with a slice of bread (white or wheat) or cornbread and a couple of sides. Daily, the kitchen features a whole host of choices: corn, green beans, broccoli spears, sweet potatoes, kale, or a vegetable medley (to name just a few). Although the sides are good and serviceable (and are dished out in very generous portions), they take a distinct and deserved back seat to the trout. There is, of course, other seafood featured on the menu. Indeed, Mid-Atlantic has a range of offerings--such as crab cakes, catfish, shrimp, scallops, oysters, clams, and such. However, every time I visit, I cannot make myself order anything else. The trout is so good, I cannot bear to leave the place without having had some. The non-seafood items, like the beef ribs, meat loaf, or barbecue chicken do not even register in my mind. They could be out-of-this-world. I just don't think about them when I arrive (even as they be resting there tantalizingly in the front counter steam table). From what I can tell, Mid-Atlantic occupies what use to be a Roy Roger's fast food outlet (note the signature kitschy architecture). Inside, the old Roy Roger's seating and furniture still remain from its original incarnation. The restaurant is located two or three blocks from the DC line on New Hampshire Avenue (on the southbound side). The area features a few undistinguished strip malls and is not a magnet for pedestrians by any stretch of the imagination (as there are few residences nearby). To come here is to, invariably, make a special trip; but, any trip here will be well worth the effort (especially, if it is to seek out the fried trout). Yes, the fried trout is excellent. I am salivating just thinking about it.

This is me and my husband's "go to" spot for Friday and/or Saturday nights! We usually order take-out. The food is not overly seasoned, and you get generous portions! I love their Whiting, Salisbury steak, baked, fried,& barbeque chicken. Their sides are pretty good; I love their collard greens, red potatoes, cabbage and fried rice! You can go to this place and never run out of options! Along with what you see at the food bar, there are many, (mainly fresh fish) on the posted menus as well! They also have an abundant desert menu! I love their bread pudding, chocolate cake and their peach cobbler is delicious! They are also open for breakfast! Ive' never been there for breakfast, but my husband says their scrabble, bacon or sausage and egg sandwiches are pretty good.

Catfish and grits is all I have to say. I love their Catfish. Everything is very well seasoned especially the fried fish. I actually never had anything else on the soul food menu but it looks pretty good. I think they could use a little better decor in and around the building because it still reminds me of what it use to be..... Roy Rogers.

Like Corbo, I really adore this place too. Because it's got character and the food is great. First of all, it looks like a giant laundromat, with a disporportionately large parkling lot, and when you drive by at night, you think, "What the...???" There's nothing subtle about the generous portion size, the sugar/salt/MSG content, or the civility of those who enter. (My sense is that everyone is pretty much subdued by the prospect of being served some extremely tasty comfort food very soon.) Everyone will feel very welcomed here. In a way, it's like going to lunch after church on Sunday morning where men and women will open the door for you. Gospel music plays all day. Otherwise there is nothing delicate about the operation. Even the most myopic persons can see the big sign - MID ATLANTIC SEAFOOD SOUL FOOD CHICKEN RIBS (250 verdana font). Collard greens, Americanized Chinese fried rice (with a nice touch of pork fat), pineapple upside down cake, crab gumbo - it's all here. Plus there's the mac and cheese, and all the scrumptious fried clams, shrimps, fish, oysters, and softshall crabs that you can eat to you heart's desire (or demise). Fried fish and fried chicken come out super fresh...mmm...super crispy and tasty...and hot. Foreign visitors, especially the Europeans, will enjoy the taste of one of the most beloved flavors of America known as soul food. The tables have been wiped many times like Public school cafeterias. The fluorescent lighting is nothing charming. But this is the Socratic notion of the two worlds: the apparent world, which is constantly changing and the unchanging and unseen world of forms, which may be a cause of what is apparent. The fried seafood here is the ideal Socratic archetype.

This place has phenomenal comfort food. The breading for the fried food is delicious, and I've loved all the sides I've tried - Mac n cheese, collard greens, mashed potatoes. If you're in the mood for southern cooking, I would definitely recommend trying this place!

I saw the rave reviews so I chose to give it a shot. I ordered the combo with 5 shrimp and a crab cake. The numbering of shrimp slightly turned me off but all of the other combinations seemed "risky". It was just as good as some seafood in other areas. Not the worst, not the best.

Not for the faint of heart? The other reviewer would have you think this place was located at the epicenter of the hood. In reality it is a stand alone business next to a very busy Jiffy Lube. The Jiffy Lube is why I found myself popping in here for a quick bite instead of sipping coffee in their crowded lobby. It could do with a makeover but after the first bite I stopped caring about anything but the delicious food. The selection here is ridiculous. You could make 1000+ different combos and not replicate a single plate. This evening I split a whiting, fried oyster, fried scallop meal. It was so good that it made me want to slap my dining companion (Hi Ma!) but I'm not trying to end up in the emergency room, so I just kept eating. The veggies tasted fresh and weren't a messy lump of flavorless mush. They were well seasoned, crisp and colorful. The fish...oh my...the fish. It was delicious. The batter was light and crispy and the fish was nice and flaky. The cornbread is on the sweet side but I like it when my cornbread tastes like it was made with Jiffy mix, so that's ok. It's ten minutes from my place so I know I'll be back.

I'm addicted to it like crack. I can't stop going...I can't! AND WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE ME!!! My diet is shot hell; my figure has taken on a somewhat sour-plum shape; my friendships have fallen to the wayside; my hair has fallen out...okay, I was already bald, BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT! Mid Atlantic Seafood has destroyed me...and I'm fine with that. My aunt/uncle introduced me to this place after a damn near knife fight--a la West Side Story--about who had the best fried fish in the city. After my solo about how pretty I felt, we headed up, up, way up New Hampshire Avenue and pulled into this joint nestled between a Jiffy Lube and a, chile who knows--if you go past the Lube you've gone to far. Despite some of the descriptions I've read, this area is no way near as nefarious as some have depicted it to be. I mean, I wouldn't let my child setup a lemonade stand up in through there or nothin', but you get my drift. But I digress. Very rarely do I get the chance to use the term, smorgasbord, but there you have it. You can't name a dish this place doesn't have on the menu. Go'head, try...I'll wait. Fried chicken? Of course. Bake chicken? Please; try harder. Freshly fried rockfish, trout, croaker, ling, perch? Got it. Chitterlin's? You ain't said nothin' but a thang. Smothered turkey wings, pork chops, meatloaf, collards, green beans, fried oysters, shrimp, scallops, bar-b-que ribs? Check, check, check, check, check, check, check, check, check. Curried goat intestines? Ew...get your nasty-azz outta here! Nevertheless, just about anything your little ole heart desires is on their menu; and best of all...it's delicious. DELICIOUS, I SAID!!! I don't know who's grandmother they've got locked up in the back cookin' for her life and salvation, but she's back there, trust me. And the portions are ridiculous; no, like really ghettorish--who in their right mind's gonna eat all this gottdamn food? I am that's who, and I ain't ashamed. Were there some missteps? Well, sure; I said they had somebody's grandma back there cookin, not Jesus. The desserts, while plentiful, are just okay--I've had the chocolate cake, sweet potato pie and peach cobbler...eh, there're alright. I wasn't licking my lips and pinching my nipples or anything. The other thing, and I swear I'm not trying to be racist, but for a place run by Asians--that's right, a soul food joint run by Asian-Americans...why not, chile? It's 2012--the fried rice was abysmal. Like really, y'all...really? You can make chitterlin's and collards, but not fried rice? Do better. All in all, Mid Atlantic has become my go-to place for a great meal, fast and cheap. I almost hate sharing this little gem with the world. But, hey, it's just my giving nature. I live to educate the peoples on good eats. Enjoy!

The food was ok. I like my food more seasoned and my fish fried harder. The vegetables came straight out of a can, bland as I don't know what! I am from the south though, so maybe that's ok here in MD. The food was like 30 something, they are quite expensive for the area and the food!

Food wasn't bad but wasn't extraordinary either. If you want average soul and seafood, this is a good place to go. I'm all about presentation. The yams did not look appetizing in my plate. I took a bite and the taste complemented the look (not good). The ribs were pretty good and so were the greens. I also decided to try a crab cake. It was burnt and very mediocre.

Big portions but lacks big taste.n I had the fried chicken way to salty. The sweet potatoes had way much brown sugar. The cabbage tuff. I topped it off with a piece of carrot cake that was dry and tasted like it had been sitting in the plastic container in the refrigerator for quite some time. It took 25 minutes to get my food and if you're making it fresh in the back and be okay with that but everything is done and sitting in steam trays in the back.

To quote a previous post, this is a landmark in Takoma Pk. They have an enormous selection of different meal combinations to try. Its rare to find somewhere to grab a decent full dinner in a chick-fila, mcdonalds infested world. My personal favorite here is a hot catfish dinner with collard greens & yams. I wish they were still open on sundays. That would make dinner plans on sunday much easier.

Whenever the mood strikes me to have an amazing breakfast that doesn't involve fast food or sit-down dining, Mid Atlantic Seafood is always the first place that comes to mind. Though it is located rather far from my residence now, every so often I still make a special trip just to go there. I always order the salmon cake breakfast platter which consist of salmon croquettes, scrambled eggs, home fries, and toast all for around under $8 (which we all know is a steal for this area). And trust me, you will not be disappointed! Everything is cooked to perfection and seasoned perfectly. One trip for breakfast and you'll understand immediately why I choose to make this cross-town trek. So why three stars? I've been hitting up Mid-Atlantic for years and while the quality of the food hasn't diminished, the size of those salmon cakes have! I guess that's just the nature of the business but it hasn't gone unnoticed.

Soul food is my guilty pleasure. So, from time to time, I'll treat myself to Mid Atlantic Seafood. It's not the snazziest place in the world, but in the world of takeout in the Takoma Park, MD area, it reigns supreme. I love fried fish! I must say, the whiting and the catfish are amazing here! I also highly recommend the yams and collard greens. The macaroni & cheese isn't that good, but I'm very particular. You may like it. :-)

JESUS ALERT If you don't care for strummy over hashed praise songs howled by white guys in high nasal tenors, don't eat here. Seriously, the music is really bad. The food isn't great, they have the seafood down but the sides need work. The smoothie I ordered was suspiciously neon orange though the sign stated "real fruit". $4.95 for 12 ounce I would expect real fruit not sugary orange slurry. This is probably a good place for families to eat as the prices are fair nd they have a good variety but I don't recommend it.

It's ok but I have better. The food was just plain no real flavor so it was no excitement for me & the only reason I went was my parents needed a ride and they were raving about the taters lol. I left feeling g like I paid too much for a regular tasting meal

My husband and I came looking for some soul food. I ordered the 12 piece shrimp platter, and my husband ordered the ultimate seafood platter. First lets talk about the 12 piece shrimp platter... The shrimp is fried with panko breading. I hate shrimp fried that way. And because it was my first time I didn't think to ask. With my platter I got two side. Collard greens and yam, the greens were kind of bland no real taste to them. The yams well let's just say I have had better. Oh I forgot to mention the cornbread! The top of the cornbread was sticky! Um, no! My husband was not a fan of the service! He upset how the young lady at the counter took our order with a attitude! Wasn't particular a fan of the food either, but he'll just about anything. I ended up throwing my food away! Wasted $20 on food I didn't like at all!:-(( I will not be back to this place again.

I knew by just looking at this place it was gonna be a great spot for soul food !!! Went here on a Saturday with my family after being in the Takoma area. When we walked in the establishment the menu had so many options my group and I did not know where to start! They have the meats, side dishes, and desserts on display in a front Glass. It all looked and smelled so good! When my cousin was clearly standing in front of the register and ignored by the cashier (we were not even greeted) and another lady stepped up and the cashier took her order. Really astonished by this action, but didn't stop us from ordering. I ordered the fried catfish--which let me say being from the south I do not normally find many places that serve catfish --so this was a def. plus! I also ordered the cabbages and fried okra! This country girl was HOME! With a drink added and cornbread my total came to $20 bucks, which seemed a little high to me--but hey I'm still adjusting to northern prices. After a 5-10 minute wait for all of our food, we were served a LARGE portion of food. This made me OK with the price I paid! My catfish was seasoned well and tasted good and the okra was also good! Cabbages were ok. My cousin let me try her crab cake and it was AMAZiNg! I don't vouch for crab cakes at too many places but I will here! It Didn't even need dipping sauce for it. Overall I was happy with my experience and my purchase and so was my family. They thanked me for picking this spot, so I have to thank yelp for previous reviews! The inside isn't the best but it was decent enough to eat in for this mom and pop joint! If you are looking for some EXCELLENT home style soul food, this is it. I wish I didn't live so far I would go back more often.

Well portioned jus don't go 30 minutes to a hour before they closing they never have anything. Staff are friendly and nice jus wish the prices were more comparable to the food being ordered.

Queen B to the rescue! I actually like this place! Most restaurants who cook in such large portions never really get soulfood right! I've been for breakfast and dinner for the most part I've always been satisfied! The grits are amazing. Fried croaker. Eggs. THE POTATOES!! The greens were not bad! They even have fried rice in the mix! A variety of sides/veggies... At least 10 meat options. The turkey wings were okay. The chittlin's I've had many times! They do alright in my book. I was raised in the south and have had good & not so good food. If want ya grandma's cooking I'd suggest you get her recipe. Otherwise mid Atlantic will do just fine.

the place doesn't look so appealing but trust me the food is so good. SOULFOOD at its finest in this area, i also think Levi's is good but idkk i think MidAtlantic tops them! the mac and cheese is creamy, hot and it's just taste amazing im probably a little obsessed i could be exaggerating. they're potatoes were really good as well it was made with onions as well. I got the crab ale today which did not disappoint me! i would definitely recommend coming here. i don't know why previous reviews were bad but i enjoyed it!

Very good food! This place is a landmark in takoma park! Very friendly service and great deals everyday. The fried fish is cooked to order and the side orders are piled high on your plate!

If I didn't know how good southern food can be, this place could really turn me off! I've tried it 3 times just to be sure and most of it lands in the garbage can. The fried catfish was OK, but the Mac n cheese, greens , and sweet potatoes were pretty awful. The attraction must be that it's fairly cheap and the portions are generous. If you want to eat GOOD southern food, get to Georgia browns.

Okay! Went back. Woman taking my order (same as before) was quite friendly and polite. The string beans with mushrooms are off da chain good! LOVED them! The mashed potatoes were boxed, not real; and the ribs were okay. Ordered peach cobbler. It was pretty good. Now, those were the good points. On to the bad! The woman who took my order also took my cash money and provided change. She then went and prepared someone's plate. No, nope, Hell NO! She neither washed her hands, nor donned gloves. Sorry folks, money has all types of nastiness on it. Don't want folks handling money and food! Ugh! Fortunately, a food handler prepared my plate! Bottom line, the food is okay, but I have serious concerns about food handling.

Food is always great! Lots of food at a reasonable price. The menu offers a plentiful variety of seafood and soul food. I am a huge fan of their catfish and grits for breakfast. Lunch and Dinner are pretty good and offer a variety of entrees.

I'm sooooooo addicted to this place I avoid the area; where can you find CLEAN chitterlings all year long? OMG!!!

"Soul food without soul" should be the slogan here. Others may have enjoyed it but I didn't care for this grease spot. Everything was already cooked when I ordered, it rather felt like I was ordering from a carryout version of Golden Corral. The mac and cheese tasted like something you'd get from a blue box and the collards reminded me of ones you'd get from a can. The fried shrimp and smothered pork chops were ok, but nothing to write home about.

4 Words. I love this place!!!! I have been patronizing this place for years. The menu represents ample opportunities to sample the variety of fried seafood combinations as well as other plentiful soul food staples. If you are in the mood for fried catfish, whiting, trout, croaker, flounder, BBQ spareribs, turkey wings, bake chicken, smothered pork chops, fried pork chops etc. (I think you get the gist). This is DEFINITELY the place for you!!

Great fresh food! our party of five had a little bit of everything and it was all delicious. ac&cheese was creamy; okra perfectly fried. The kale is especially good. Nothing is too salty. Ribs, chitterlings, and chicken were great. We will definitely be back for more!

This place isn't for the faint of heart, as its really freaking far from anything, in a neighborhood that leaves MUCH to be desired (oh, and also now features speed cams for the lead footed). This is the not-so-charming posterior end of Takoma Park, a depressing series of strip malls juxtaposed with, well, nothing. I usually go for my twice yearly oil changes, as there is a Jiffy Lube next door. I also don't generally go for the seafood, although they do have a nice selection. Two words - fried chicken. That's really all you need to know. They cook it to order, and it takes about 20 minutes, which also doesn't make this an ideal lunch place (unless you call ahead and order). As a Southerner who remembers the original Popeye's, I can tell you this place is the real deal as far as fried chicken goes. It's better than my fried chicken, which is saying a lot. The sides are also to die for, from the candied yams to the black eyed peas and greens and onion rings. Your friends and roommates and significant others, and heck your pets, may not want to occupy the same room as you after a meal here, but it's worth the trip and any unfortunate consequences of your meal there.

This is pretty much what Boston Market is TRYING to be. Huge variety of seafood, chicken, etc. and a ton of sides and desserts. The seafood wasn't of the highest quality, but still seems to be popular. Regardless, damn those sides were amazing. Melt in my mouth sweet potatoes, mac and cheese out of my dreams, roasted red potatoes with crisp and flavorful skin, creamy and tangy coleslaw, the best greens I've ever had. Didn't have the room to try any of the desserts, but they looked amazing. Wish I lived closer to this place, but if I am ever in the area again I will go out of my way to stop by.

hubby and I went in today looking for some fresh seafood, boy did we get it:) We both ordered the Croaker dinner, with 2 sides for $11.99. I had collards and stewed potatoes, he had yams and seasoned potatoes. The fish was hot, fresh, and the two pieces we got were bigger than the container that they were served in:) Everything was seasoned to perfection, and we thought we would pop when we were done:) Their menus include everything from seafood, chicken, to meatloaf and liver and onions. Prices are a little ( and I do mean a little) high, but you will feel you underpaid when you see the portions!!! Stay away from the Blue Raspberry Lemonade... it is pure sugar! I had a medium and it was so sweet that i mixed it with a gallon of water and it was still sweet :) Overall, this place gets two thumbs WAY UP!!!!!!

Selection... portion size... quality... where do I start? This place is f****** awesome. I ordered some takeout after needing to use my Groupon offer but I will definitely be back soon. Takeout was great, but I'd suggest dining in so you can check out the daily specials and see what's available. Fried clams? Amazing. Side dishes? How can you possibly choose. Get here ASAP, so much more than just seafood they should change the name of the restaurant to "Heaven".

How have I never reviewed this place? I'm not giving it 5 stars for any haute cuisine served--there is none here. You get the basic kinds of meals that mom, dad, and grandma used to serve (or someone's mom, dad, or grandma). This is my go-to place when I just don't feel like cooking. I love the service, the prices, the whoa-are-they-putting-ANOTHER-spoonful-in portions, the variety of food offered, the freshly baked and fried fish (prepare to wait a tad to get these), and the utter convenience. Don't go to a drive-through fast food joint for limited offerings of questionable "food" just because you can get it cheap when you can go here and get real food, real meals for not much money. I'm giving 5 stars because this is the "best in it's class." The decor is fast food restaurant. You order from the counter and wait for your number to be called whether you dine in or dine out. You will wait in a line to order--this place is popular at dinner time. Order service is swift, but you will wait a tad for delivery, usually no more than 5 minutes for most orders--a little longer for fried or baked fish). There are probably hundreds of combinations of things to order--fried or baked fish (many varieties every day), fried or baked chicken (not outstanding, but not bad either), beef or pork ribs (again, not outstanding, but not bad), choices of about a dozen or more sides (some are listed as sides on the menu board--like fried okra, but are not in the bins on display). As to the person who mentioned this place not being for the "faint of heart," If using a plastic fork when you dine in gives you heart palpitations, OK. Otherwise, I don't understand. It's clean, friendly, and on the edge of a working (emphasis on the working) class neighborhood that smacks up against tony Takoma Park (right behind the trees in back of the restaurant). I'm glad it's here.

Yummy whiting dinner - with kale and broccoli for $9. Fresh not canned vegetables. They serve you heaping portions of sides. Where can you get that? I love the kale. Next time I will try the eggplant.

OMG! Why didnt someone tell me about this restaurant! I have been in the DMV for 10 months and a friend attempted to take me there one day but it was closed. I am in LOVE! OK, so after my Zumba class on Thursday, I passed by and saw seafood on the sign, so I made a U-turn and went back. Being closer I saw soul-food, so I moved quicker to see what was going on in this establishment. EVERYBODY cannot cook SouFood! WOW!!!! There selections are off the hook and plentiful. When you first walk in their is a showcase of salads and desserts that is plentiful...whatever you desire is there from bananna pudding to watermelon and all kinds of cakes! Then to your far right is the FOOD! I mean there are so many items you want to try them all and it is a tad bit overwhelming, but I tried not to show my giddiness! I ordered the Chitterlings YES Chitterlings (excellent), the black eyed peas and yams w/cornbread, a salad, and some watermelon! It came up to $25.00, but it was well worth it! They give you so much of everything. I have been to other places that just charge you for the chitterlings alone $15.00, here I got the chiterlings and two sides for $18.99. I could not wait to get home. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! I will be there every Thursday! (if not sooner). I spoke to one of the female patrons who said EVERYTHING was good at this location.....I will find out for myself!
